This Is Sheila
In September 2009 Sheila was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer, originating from the colon and spread to the liver and the lungs, with the prognosis of less than a year to live. Some consultants suggested Sheila wouldn’t see the coming Christmas.
On learning of her situation Sheila bargained with herself for 5 years so that our then 6 months old baby daughter would have a chance to remember her mother. Sheila managed to fight her cancer for 13 and a half years.
If you only knew this of Sheila you’d already get it what kind of a special woman she was – she had grit, determination, and above all an almost superhuman willpower to beat the odds. She also had the strength and fitness to take on and endure the numerous surgeries, treatments, chemotherapies and more – all still with her humor intact and infectious smile. Sheila had also so many more strings to her bow and I will do my best, attempting to describe her to you – the way she was known to her family and friends, colleagues and everyone who had the fortune and pleasure to meet her: Sheila always made an unforgettable impact of the positive kind on everyone she turned her attention to.
